Children’s Hospital Charity Ride: 2010 Courage Classic

May 27, 2010

In a few weeks I’ll be participating in the Courage Classic, a charity bike ride in the Rocky Mountains starting on July 31st. I’ll be riding 157 miles over a three-day period with thousands of other riders all to raise money for the Children’s Hospital. We’ll be riding from Copper Mountain along highways that will take us over places like Vail Pass at 10,666 feet. After the three-day ride we will have gained over 10,000 feet of elevation.

I’ll be riding with Team Iron Will. Will was born a month ago to friends of my team leader and passed away soon after his birth. Our team will be riding to give hope to kids just like Will who need the special care the Children’s Hospital. Here is a short write up about his life.

William Diedrich Meyer April 26, 2010 – April 28, 2010
Our sweet beautiful baby boy was only able to spend two days with us here on Earth before he was called upon by God for bigger and better things. There is no need for us to ask “why?” We know that he was meant to be. We believe that Will has forever changed many lives. We know that he was chosen for us, and we were chosen for him. We are thankful for the time he was able to spend with us. To read more about Will’s short life, please visit Thanks to the many doctors and nurses from the NICU at St. Mary’s. The doctors, nurses and support staff that we encountered at The Children’s Hospital in Denver will be remembered by us forever. Especially touching our hearts were the highly skilled and trained doctors from the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit who fought for Will’s life as though he were their own. From the bottom of our hearts, we are truly and deeply thankful.

I know the value of Children’s Hospitals personally. A car hit me when I was three years old and a helicopter airlifted me to the Children’s Hospital in OKC where I spent a time recuperating from my injuries. I have personally benefited from Children’s Hospital and know how important they are to so many children’s lives.

Our team’s fundraising goal is $5000 by July 31st. If you are able to donate please visit our donation page. Any help in spreading the word about this great cause would be appreciated.
